Understudy’s first full-room exhibition of the year, Through Our Eyes, celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Colorado Black Arts Festival. Selected from an open call, six artists bring powerful and distinct perspectives to this milestone exhibition.
The exhibition explores the history and legacy of the African diaspora, examining labor, capitalism, Southern foodways, Black queer identity, and the immigrant experience through deeply personal and cultural lenses. Together, the works reflect on memory, resilience, lineage, and lived experience — revealing how each artist interprets and navigates the world around them. Through layered perspectives, the exhibition considers how history informs identity and shapes the present moment.
