Art History Is All Around Us

If you haven’t seen Melissa Matuska’s delightful clips of museums, architecture, and historical points of interest in Upper Downtown and its surrounding areas, you are in for a treat.  The first clip I stumbled upon was a view inside the Kirkland Museum during its Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit – Inside the Walls.  It’s impressive how much Melissa packs into 2 minutes and 41 seconds.

Impressed with this production, I subscribed to be notified about future videos released every Thursday.  There are so many engaging and informative videos about places we walk by daily.

I was lucky to sit down with Melissa and learn about her inspiration and motivation to make these videos.

She told me we walk by so many cool and fascinating places that people don’t talk about or even realize exist.  It’s her passion to find these gems, do the research, and share her videos.

Melissa had been visiting Denver for years, and in 2020 had the opportunity to spend a few months living in Downtown Denver. She immediately fell in love with the vibrant energy.  One year later, in July 2021, she moved to Upper Downtown, making Denver her home.  Growing up close to Chicago, Melissa has always thrived on visiting local historical landmarks and buildings that are lesser known and subsequently less appreciated.

The passion for exploring these sites is in her bones, so she decided this would be a great way to get to know her new adopted home.

This video is about 17th Street  – The Wall Street of The Rockies,

In the vein of doing what you love, she happened to make a great business connection when a couple googled Things to do in Denver and stumbled upon Melissa’s YouTube channel.  Her excitement and knowledge of the area must have resonated because they contacted her to enlist her as their real estate agent, and now they live in nearby LoDo.

If you go to Melissa’s YouTube channel, you’re bound to learn something you didn’t know before.  Next time you’re out and about, maybe you’ll discover a new mural, art, or historical fact while strolling in UpDoNa.
