Safety Committee

The Safety Committee works to ensure that the Upper Downtown Neighborhood is a safe, inviting and comfortable place to live, work and play.

Denver was named the safest major city in America in a 2020 Clever Real Estate study. When COVID hit, Upper Downtown—like many major cities—saw a decline in the quality of life we had long enjoyed. UpDoNA was created to help reverse that trend, and the Safety Committee has led that work from day one.

We built strong working relationships with Mayor Hancock’s administration and continued that partnership with Mayor Johnston’s team. Because of sustained collaboration and advocacy, conditions in Upper Downtown are far better than when UpDoNA first formed.

The Safety Committee’s role is to represent the safety needs of residents and businesses and to ensure our neighborhood remains well‑managed and responsive. We meet regularly with DPD, the Department of Safety, and other city officials to understand trends, raise concerns, and push for stronger, consistent enforcement of all laws. We also work to identify and remove obstacles that prevent effective enforcement.

Our mission is simple: protect the quality of life in Upper Downtown and remain a constructive, informed partner to the City and County of Denver.
