In 2020, a study done by Clever Real Estate named Denver the safest city in America after looking at the 50 largest metro areas in the United States. However, subsequent to that report, we observed a steady decline in what we saw around us – open drug use, vandalism, graffiti, tent encampments, trash littering the streets, assaults, car and bicycle thefts and so much more. There were many causes and reasons why this had occurred, but residents and businesses understandably wanted this trend reversed.
The Safety Committee’s work focused on reversing that trend and, in fact, was the main reason that UpDoNA was initially formed. As a result of our work with the city, we had significant success. We continued to work with the new Johnston administration, and today, the situation is completely different than when we formed our organization.
Today, this committee continues to do everything in its power to increase enforcement of all of our laws, works to understand and remove obstacles to that end, and in general, represents the rights of Upper Downtown residents and businesses to the City and County of Denver.
