Members of the UpDoNA Cares Committee continue to do work to support some less-fortunate members of our community. This is usually through volunteer work or monetary donations. We have ongoing relationships with 3 shelters which provide many services to enable homeless individuals to move towards happier, safer healthier lives.
The Delores Project works with women and transgender individuals. Our committee members do volunteer work there, primarily preparing and serving meals. We have also helped with fundraising and donation of holiday gifts for their clients – look for news about holiday money/gift donations in the coming weeks.
Urban Peak works with youth and young adults – ages 12-24. See the article in last month’s newsletter about our developing relationship with Urban Peak, its new facility, and our participation in their very successful annual fundraising event. We have begun volunteer work in the new facility, serving meals. There are many other volunteer opportunities there as well. Holiday gift needs will be big there. On October 10th two of us did a tour of their new place (aka “The Mothership) – which is amazing – with a very functional design. They offer tours the 2nd Thursday of each month at noon.
STEP Denver works with adult men, primarily those with drug/alcohol addiction. They have a long history of better outcomes than others dealing with the same kinds of clients. We do occasional volunteer projects there and they have ongoing needs for financial support. Look for updates about holiday needs soon.
We can better support these organizations with more volunteers. The next meeting of the UpDoNA Cares Committee is Thursday November 21 at 4:30 PM in the Spire Building 9th floor common space and all are welcome.
