Our Cares Committee continues to actively support two local shelters, The Delores Project and Urban Peak, with occasional projects at a third – STEP Denver. Volunteer work, usually preparing and serving a meal at each once a month, is the backbone of our support for Urban Peak and The Delores Project. There is a broad range of volunteer needs at each program, however and we could do more at each place if we had more volunteers – please message Ron Townsend at ron23townsend@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer or with any questions about our committee.
Upcoming volunteer opportunities at Urban Peak include providing/serving lunch on Thursday June 12 and Thursday July 10. Urban Peak recently lauded the work of UpDoNA Cares in a “Partner Highlight” article in its April Newsletter “April Peak News”. Upcoming volunteer opportunities at The Delores Project include providing/serving lunch on Friday June 27 and Thursday July 24. By the time this newsletter is distributed, “25 Years of Building Belonging” – the anniversary celebration and fundraiser – will be history. Some Cares members are participating. Not surprisingly, all three shelters need financial support and UpDoNA members can help with direct donations of money or by participating in fundraising events. Urban Peak’s Annual Event/Fundraiser “Urban Nights” is scheduled for the evening of Saturday September 13. Details should be available soon.
