Meeting With City Leaders On Safety & Police Presence

In response to many telephone calls, emails, and texts regarding the recent stabbings and general safety concerns, The Upper Downtown Neighborhood Association and the Lower Downtown Neighborhood Association held a meeting with our city leaders, including the Mayor’s Office, Director of Safety, Chief of Police, DPD District 6 officers, and others. A key issue that was discussed is police presence downtown, especially on the 16^th Street Mall.

The one-hour meeting was held on Monday, February 3^rd, at 1:00 p.m., in the board room of the Downtown Denver Partnership.

There was a question-and-answer portion of the meeting, and many that were in attendance asked questions and voiced concerns. We were gratified that over 100 concerned downtown residents attended, and this sent a strong message to our city leaders about the level of our concern.

February UNO

UpDoNA has moved UNOs to the second Thursday of each month.

The February UNO (UpDoNA Night Out) will be held on Thursday, February 13^th. Stay as long as you want and have a great time with other members.

Advanced Announcement about the May UNO

UpDoNA and Clocktower Cabaret, who is one of our newest Business Members, have been working together to bring UpDoNA members a special activity for the May UNO. On Thursday May 8th, UpDoNA members can enjoy an evening with Avourneen for a super low price of $10 per person (plus a $4 ticket fee). Avourneen is an Irish band that “offers a new take on Irish tradition”, so this should be a ton of fun! Let’s get a big group from UpDoNA and have a great time!

Cold temperatures and the Unhoused

Winter temperatures are here. If you see an unhoused person(s) exposed to the elements, please report it using the Clean and Safe app, or by calling 311 or using the 311 app. Of course, if you encounter an emergency situation, please call 911. Denver Police Officers and Denver Health EMTs will provide transportation to a warming station or shelter. No one will be arrested.

What is Upper Downtown?

Formerly known as the “Central Business District”, we’re now Upper Downtown and we encompass a large section of the downtown area bordered by Lawrence Street, 20th Street, 20th Avenue, North Broadway, West Colfax and Speer Boulevard.

Our community includes over twenty residential buildings with a mix of condominiums, lofts and apartment rentals. We’re also home to hundreds of businesses (large and small), as well as multiple parks, dining and entertainment venues of all types.
