Tucked between two buildings on Curtis Street is Tip To Toe Nails Salon-a delightful and welcoming shop. Tip To Toe Nails Salon is a highly-rated salon which offers manicure and pedicure services to both men and women. It is a widely supported fact that many patrons of the shop are UpDoNA members who have been regular customers over the years. Julie Won, a vivacious and very bright woman, is the owner of the shop that she purchased nine years ago from a friend. “It was an easy choice” she said, because “she knew about nails”.
During a recent interview, Julie was asked about the reasons she joined UpDoNA. When compared to the time she first owned the shop and currently, she feels the city is “not working right”. She pointed to a decline of people in the streets and lack of good and useful services for those who live and work there. In prior years, Julie pointed out “You could walk down 16th Street and see shops of all kinds”. There were shops catering to men and women’s clothing, repair shops and stores like T.J.Maxx which provided merchandise for the community. Most of these are gone and so is the population”.
Currently, Julie feels “there are not enough people in the community to keep business afloat”. In short, she feels we need people to come downtown to support these businesses.
Julie feels that UpDoNA will be the vehicle to encourage and educate people to visit downtown. Because of their own frequent exposure in community events, UpDoNA’s presence creates feelings of safety and community. Plus, the new 16th Street and all it has to offer now would encourage folks to visit. It is apparent that Julie would like to be an agent of change working with UpDoNA and her business to promote people coming back to Denver, once more.
Tip To Toe Nails Salon has been described as “clean, nice and relaxing”.
Customers have also recommended certain technicians concerning “attention to detail”. Julie has specific guidelines for her staff including skill level but just as important to be warm and welcoming. If there is a problem, Julie promises she will do all in her power to make it right.
Four years ago, Julie opened her second Tip To Toe Nails Salon in the South Glen Mall, in Centennial.
Julie is Korean born and came from a family whose values she emulates today, especially doing what you liked would bring success. Today Julie and her husband, James, are the parents of three children who have excelled academically. She has tried to raise her children with the values with which she was raised: excellence in service, loving what you do and aiming for success.
Julie is excited to become a member of UpDoNA and she feels she has the opportunity to become an active member and influence people as to how they can become a part of making Denver great again. As a new member, she hopes to use her business to promote this goal by being welcoming and pleasant to her customers. Julie also plans to offer promotions to UpDoNA members, old and new.
If you are walking near Curtis Street, drop in and welcome Julie and her Staff to UpDoNA’s Business Membership Committee.
