UpDoNA Cares Committee members continue to work to support two local shelters and their residents. A group of members is serving lunch 2/24 at The Delores Project. The Delores Project has an annual spring fundraiser – this year’s event will be held the evening of May 18 at Space Gallery on Santa Fe. More information will be available soon. We hope to work with Step Denver residents on neighborhood cleanups and other events soon.
Discussion at our Cares Committee meeting 2/20/23 focused on lack of success of many programs directed at homelessness, mental illness, drug dependence and related issues. Throwing money at these problems without personal connections with the people involved generally fails to help. We are trying to improve our knowledge about problems of access to and coordination of the many services needed by Denver’s homeless population. We hope that we can have a positive influence on program design and success moving forward.
