UpDoNA Cares Committee – Helping others for the Holidays

Throughout the year, UpDoNA and its members support our partner shelters (Urban Peak, The Delores Project, and STEP Denver) in many ways. This is most often via volunteer work (especially preparing and serving meals at The Delores Project and Urban Peak) or participation in fundraising efforts for any of the three shelters. In December, all of these activities continue and there are additional needs/opportunities to help the shelters and their residents. See specifics below about how you can individually support our partner shelters and help their residents have some positive experience over the holidays.

UrbanPeak.org   At the top of the opening page of the website, click on “support us” and select “donate” on the dropdown menu to donate directly to the shelter. Select “In-Kind Donations” to purchase items from Amazon wish lists – which can be delivered directly to Urban Peak. You can choose to donate things that they need or things that would be good holiday gifts for clients who may appear at their shelter at any time. These lists include:

“Mothership Needs” – Basic clothing, etc. that they need on hand for residents who may appear with little or no possessions

“Housing Needs”- Cleaning products, bedding, etc.

“Holiday Wish List” – Resident focused miscellaneous things including some that fulfill basic needs, gift cards, etc.

Explore any of the lists and choose items to place in your cart. When checking out select “Urban Peak gift registry address” as the address for shipping and items go directly to the shelter.

TheDeloresProject.org   Choose “Give” on the opening page and then “GiveNow!” at the top of the dropdown menu to make cash donations to the shelter.  From the “Give” menu on the opening page choose “Holiday Help” and scroll down to gift lists. Choose either “Permanent Supportive Housing Wishlist” or  “Shelter Christmas Wishlist”  to access those and other Delores Amazon lists. You can direct delivery directly to The Delores Project.

STEPDenver.org   You can make cash donations directly using the “Give” button.

The Amazon Gift list for STEP clients “STEP DENVER CHRISTMAS” is reachable at: https://a.co/hBnp9Kv When you check out for the purchase choose Step Denver gift registry address and items go directly to them.

Note that gift lists for all 3 shelters may be updated frequently in the coming weeks, so accessing them on different days may give different results.

Kristen Deak and Peter Abuisi are again coordinating an annual toy drive. This is the 11th year of this event, which has provided many Denver Children with toys and other gifts to give them some holiday joy that they would otherwise not experience. Children at The Gathering Place, Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs, and Urban Peak will benefit from this effort. This drive includes identification of needs/wants of individual children/families and donors can purchase specific gifts for individuals. It also collects toys, bikes, etc. and money for gift cards that could be great gifts for many different children and will be distributed at the sites mentioned above. See SpireToyDrive.com for more details. Note that while this effort is based at the Spire, contributions of all UpDoNA members living anywhere are welcome and encouraged so that we can support as many deserving Denver children as possible.
