Since our last update, the Scooter Subcommittee continues to work on new PSAs that will increase diversity and inclusivity across the digital electronic signs within the Theatre District. The intent of the PSAs is to bring awareness to residents and visitors regarding the use of e-scooters and discouraging their use on sidewalks where they are not safe and therefore not allowed. The Subcommittee may explore how to measure their effectiveness in the future.
At a LoDoNA meeting, the City’s Department of Transportation & Infrastructure (DOTI) presented plans to install new protected bike lanes, bus lanes and sidewalk improvements to Market and Blakes Streets. Most of the installation on Blake Street between Broadway and 14th Street has already occurred and Market Street will be next. In addition, DOTI continues to work on new signage for existing and new bike lanes to include e-scooter icons. The Subcommittee is excited to have new, safe facilities for e-scooters and bikes in downtown and is eager to see more. The Subcommittee continues to advocate for safe bike lanes on all streets downtown.
Finally, David Kurth (Subcommittee Chair) has agreed to participate on a panel to discuss e-scooters in a virtual town hall being hosted by City Council Representative Chris Hinds on May 25th from 6:00PM – 7:00PM. UpDoNA members are encouraged to sign up and attend using this link: https://www.denverperfect10.com/townhall/.
